Chainsaw Man: Chapter 110 Review

Welcome back to Chainsaw Interviews, where every week we take a closer look at the newest chapter of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s masterpiece, Chainsaw Man. This week, we’re taking a closer look at Chainsaw Man Part 2, Chapter 13, or Chapter 110.

In terms of Chainsaw Man news, there are only really three notable things that happened. As it turns out, all of them are figures. One was a new Power figure, and unlike the last one, I felt a little bit more research into this one, but I couldn’t find the price, so you’re on your own for this one. There are two new Denji figures that I could find the price for, and they’re actually really affordable. One is with Denji inside his double form, and one is in his human form.

Both are a cool 30 bucks. I’m guessing that shipping and packaging will hike that up to maybe like forty dollars, but still, it’s a steal compared to how expensive the other ones are.

Anyway, let’s get into the recap of last week’s chapter. It ended off with Denji taking out the colossal-sized Yuko that was revived by a possible new Horseman, Mitaku. Is out cold when it happens, so when she wakes up, Yuru immediately takes over her body, ready to fight Denji.

This chapter picks up where the last one left off, with Denji reaching into Yuko’s guts, saying, “Yuko’s sword leg,” getting ready for battle. She asked Denji if he remembers her, not realizing that Pochita doesn’t control his body. Then she ignores this, instead choosing to focus on Mitaku’s now exposed features.

All of a sudden, the girl who was possessed by a devil in Chapter 108 pops out of Yuko’s guts. The girl freaks out, thinking Denji’s gonna eat her, but he sees this as the perfect opportunity to reveal his identity. He tells the girl that he’ll prove he’s actually human by switching to his human form.

As he’s talking with her, Yoru lunges at him, taking a swing, but right before it connects, an octopus tentacle wraps around Denji, pulling him away. Yoru misses her chance to swing and realizes that he disappeared. She thinks that then she thought she wasn’t worth his time and left.

We cut to Denji being suspended in the air by a tentacle with Yoshida beside it. He used his octopus devil to stop him from revealing his identity since that’s what his organization wants. He tells Denji that he’s hopeless, but Denji’s pissed at them since that would have been an amazing opportunity for an identity reveal.

Chainsaw Man: Chapter 110 Review

This segment was a nice wrap-up to the whole Yuko School attack Arc, though as evident in a few pages, it’s not entirely done. We see the rest of Tokyo’s reaction to the attack on the school. They all talk about how Yuko was viewed as the annoying kid and bullied a lot. One person calls her mentally weak, saying that they aren’t surprised Yuko was tricked by a devil.

It’s fairly obvious that this is another comment on society by Fujimoto, which is something that he’s been doing a lot lately. It’s time society’s refusal to reflect on themselves when a great tragedy occurs. When something like a school shooting happens, we all get this information on the shooter, a commentary that they were severely bullied in life. By saying this, I am in no way condoning their actions or their reasons for taking other human lives, but rather giving a reason for their motives, nothing more.

This being said, we all know this and choose to move on with our lives. We take the easy way out by making up excuses like that they were mentally weak, so it all makes sense, instead of reflecting on ourselves and choosing to be better.

Fujimoto’s comments on society were definitely there in part one, but they were a lot more subtle. In part two, they’re front and center, diving into topics that most shonen would rather avoid, at least not this directly. If Fujimoto does plan on continuing to do this, I hope that he paces them out or at least if he consistently does it like he has been, there is a chance that it could lose its weight. But if some random dude with a mic and a script in front of him can recognize that, I’m sure that one of the greatest mangaka of all time can.

Back on track, Mitaku seems to be having a dream. She narrates over it, saying that it happens a lot and that she’s running down an alley for some strange reason with dead chickens laying out everywhere on the ground. She tries not to notice them, but they pile up, leaving her with no choice. There’s an infinite darkness ahead of her, but she doesn’t know what lies inside of it because she always wakes up at that part.

Chainsaw Man: Chapter 110 Review

Mitaku wakes up in a cold sweat from the dream in the middle of the night. She tries to calm herself down by getting a glass of water. Just before she heads back to bed, somebody rings the doorbell. There is a brief tense silence before Mitaku asks, “Who is it?” The voice answers, saying, “Sorry for dropping by so late.” Mitaku recognizes it as Yuko’s voice.

She immediately goes to open the door, but Yuko tells her not to. Yuko explains that she was somehow able to escape but is now permanently a devil. She’s afraid that if she sees Mitaku, she’ll try to eat her without hesitation.

Mitaku opens the door, and we get a good look at Yuko, who is definitely no longer human. She now has these odd tentacle things strewn all over her body and face. There’s some resemblance of a human form, but it’s not very recognizable. She says, “I told you not to open it,” and that’s the chapter. What a cliffhanger, huh? I’m curious to see where Fujimoto is going with Yuko’s character because I was sure she was going to die at the school Arc. Now I genuinely have no idea what’s going to happen.

The only thing I really have is maybe this is Yuko saying goodbye. She wanted to say goodbye to her only friend before she ran off to start a new life somewhere else. But it’s not like I haven’t been wrong before, and I have definitely been wrong a lot, especially in these last few chapters. That’s about it for this episode. I’ll see you guys next week.
